Encouraging women throughout the Leeds area and its neighboring communities to “Get Up and Go,” Leeds First United Methodist Church (LFUMC) hosts its third annual Women’s Conference for Spiritual Renewal.
The event came about due to a conversation LFUMC Disciple Chairman Veronica Dowdey had with God during one of her morning walks.
“The idea came to me and I thought, ‘No Lord, that’s too much work,’ but the more I thought about it, I decided to share it with my Bible study group. They thought it was a great idea and so did our minister,” said Dowdey.
After overcoming obstacles such as booking the first conference during spring break, things began to fall into place.
“The Lord was insistent,” said Dowdey.
The conference will take place Friday, Feb. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Doing things differently this year, the conference will incorporate a question and answer forum after each minister speaks.
“We’ll have table discussions where each woman has the opportunity to talk about how the ministers’ talks are relevant to their lives,” said Dowdey.
The LFUMC Women’s Conference for Spiritual Renewal costs $25, which includes two meals, one of which will be pork tenderloin, breakfast from Chick-Fil-A and snacks.
Deadline for registration is Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Other highlights for the weekend include special prayer time in the chapel with the guest ministers, worship music with singing provided by Tiffany Bittner from Fox 6 on Friday night and communion on Saturday evening.
“Bonding through praying, studying and fellowship these women get to not only hear these speakers, but talk about it with their sisters in Christ,” said Dowdey. “Women are drawn to this event because it touches their lives.”
