Katie Compton’s shot on goal in the first half of the AHSAA All-Star soccer game may not have put a point on the scoreboard, but her efforts helped the North team to a 2-1 win against the South.
The junior forward for the Pell City Lady Panthers started both halves of the game, attempting a shot that was stopped by the South’s goalkeeper at the end of the first half.
“Both teams were evenly matched,” she said. “It felt like a fast-paced high school game.”
Compton said she was “really, really excited,” about being named to the all-star team, but the accolade isn’t just about her.
“I think it proves that our high school soccer program is getting better every year. I’m hoping another junior from Pell City gets picked to go next year. It’s fun to represent your county and school.”
