Names wanted for Leeds memorial wall
The Leeds Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6440, will be compiling new names for the memorial placed at the Leeds Veterans Memorial Park. Added to the memorial is a Purple Heart wall stone that is available for engraving. To add your’s, or a loved one’s name, to the memorial call 205-699-2559 to receive an application. The deadline will be Nov. 4. These names need to be compiled quickly so those interested are encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible.
Art classes offered at library
The Leeds-Jane Culbreth Library will host the next in its series of Speak-Easy Art Classes at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Leeds Civic Center. The class will paint a harvest moon over pines. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of experience. The fee for the class is $20 and money raised will go the library building fund.
Leeds-Moody Rotary Club hosting One Ton Challenge Food Drive
The Leeds-Moody Rotary Club is looking to make a ton of a difference by collecting food for those in need during the month of October.
From Oct. 1 to 28, Leeds and Moody schools will compete to see who can bring in more non-perishable food items during the annual One Ton Challenge food drive.
The food drive will culminate on Oct. 28, the night of the Leeds versus Moody football game. Donation bins will be set up at all eight participating schools, but donations will also be accepted from the public at the Leeds/Moody football game.
Items donated by Leeds students will benefit the Leeds Welfare Cooperative, while Moody donations will go to Shepherd Supply, Inc.
Murder/mystery dinner theater
The Leeds Arts Council will present a Dinner/Mystery Theatre on October 22, 23, 29 and 30 at 6 p.m. and on Sunday, October 24 and 31 there will be Dessert/Mystery Theatre at 2 p.m.
The dinner menu by Top Notch Catering will be beef tips with gravy or pecan encrusted chicken, salad, mashed potatoes, squash casserole, green bean casserole, red velvet cake or peach cobbler and coffee, tea, or wine.
