Distinguish Young Women is teaming up for their annual Celebrity Fundraising Dinner, which will include a host of St. Clair “celebrity waiters” and a great meal for a low price. The event will be held Thursday, March 13 from 5-8 PM at St. Clair County High School Cafeteria.
The Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcases of their accomplishments. The DYW is unique in that it believes that every young woman has the potential to reach her own goals in life, regardless of her outward appearance or economic status. Participants earn scholarships and medallions to signify the organization’s emphasis on academic achievement and all-around excellence. Participants learn how to live a health life, the importance of education and self-esteem through the Be Your Best Self Program, and they are able to share this program with younger children.
The Celebrity Waiter Dinner is DYW’s only scholarship fundraiser. At this event, local community leaders team up with DYW as “Celebrity Waiters.” Together they invite friends, families and businesses to the fundraiser dinner and request financial support for the program. The celebrity and the participant then serve their guests in hopes of collecting large tips (donations) for the scholarship fund. The generous tips give by supporters are the actual dollars awarded as scholarships on program night. There will also be many items available for a silent auction.
Celebrity waiters, participants and program little sisters for this year include: Judge Mike Bowling with Kasey Gamble and Allison Wheeler; Greg Cobb with Brookly Graff and Lauryn Graff; Judge Alan Furr with Brooke walker and Hannah Nielsen; Gary hanner with Tori Williams and Clayton Cato; Joe Kelly with Katlyn Moorer and Chelsea Twamley; Mayor Joe Lee with Anna Caroline Adkins and Amanda Carpenter; Paul and Marie Manning; Dr. Jim McClendon with Taylor Golden and Kristen Jones; Dennis Russell with Sarah Wilkes and Annika Clayton; and Judge Phil Seay with Keighan Spann and Breanna Harris. DYW asks that you let your “gratuity” for these fabulous waiters be your generous contribution to the scholarship foundation.
All money contributed goes to the colleges of choice for the winners among nine St. Clair County senior high school young women participating in the local program on Sat. Jun 21. at 6:30 p.m. in Springville Middle School’s auditorium.
Main Street Pizza in Springville has partnered with DYW and will be serving a choice of entrees at the fundraising dinner. You can choose from lasagna, meat spaghetti or whit lasagna with salad, bread, beignets and tea or water. Meals are ten dollars for adults and five dollars for children ten and under.
