Jud Alverson, alongside his family, is sworn into office.

In front of a packed City Hall chambers, the mayor and city council members of Pell City were sworn into office.

Those taking their oath of office, administered by Judge Phil Seay, included Mayor Bill Pruitt, Councilman Jay Jenkins (First District), Councilwoman Ivi McDaniel (Second), Councilman Blaine Henderson (Third), Councilman Jason Mitcham (Fourth) and Councilman Jud Alverson(Fifth).

Following Monday night’s swearing in, the council held its first meeting where they elected Alverson as the new council president.

“I am very humbled to be asked to do this,” Alverson said. “I obviously have very big shoes to fill.”

The council elected Mitcham president pro tem. Alverson expressed confidence in the choice.

“He is someone who is in it for the right reasons. He gives beyond being on the council,” said Alverson.

Alverson says his first order of business, other than getting in the groove of performing the job, is to get a capital budget passed before the end of the year. He also wants to sit down with the mayor and city manager to discuss concerns.

Other city appointments were made during the council meeting as well. These include:

-Brian Muenger as city manager

-Sheree Pruitt as city clerk

-Theresa St. James as city treasurer

-Tim Kurzejeski as fire chief

-Paul Irwin as police chief

-James Hadaway as utility manager

The next meeting of the city council of Pell City takes place on Monday, Nov. 9
