On the last official day of school for the 2018-19 school year, Dr. Michael Barber, Pell City School Superintendent, announced his retirement effective July 1 at a Board of Education meeting.
“I have been in education for 32 years,” Barber told staff. “We have accomplished a lot in the past six years.”
A 30-day vacancy period will be open and the Pell City Board of Education will accept applications for the position and interview potential candidates before the new school year begins.
“I know the next person is going to be blessed and fortunate,” Barber stated. “We have a phenomenal school system. I know the Lord already has a replacement person.”
Dr. Michael Barber will continue as pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Pell City and will enjoy retirement with this wife and children.
