Moody took on County rival Springville last Tuesday night. The Tigers where a rude guest for the Blue Devils as they dominated Moody on the floor and on the scoreboard. The two teams battled back and forth in the first quarter. Moody outscored Springville 8 – 1 the rest of the quarter and led 15 – 9 at the end of the first.
The game was tied at 18 thanks to a Zac Mason 3 pointer to tie it midway through the second quarter. Springville went on 9 – 2 to go up 27 – 20. Springville held a 10 point 35 – 25 lead at halftime.
Perimeter defense and inside play was the standard for the Springville Tigers in the second half. Springville held Moody to 13 second half points and scored 31 second half points to get the 66 – 38 win over Moody. The Tigers where led by Isbell’s 21 points. Cyric Williams led the scoring for Moody with 11 points, DeJuan Holyfield had 8 points and Zac Mason had 9.
Moody took on archrival St. Clair County last Friday night and it was a spark by Evan Johnson off the bench that led to the Moody 41 – 34 come from behind win.
St. Clair started the game off with a fast pace. At one point the Saints led 14 – 4. Moody scored the last four points of the quarter to trail the Saints 14 – 8 after the first. Moody only scored 4 more points in the second quarter. It was an altogether low scoring quarter for both teams as St Clair could only manage 7 points to lead Moody 21 – 12 at halftime.
Moody’s cold first half shooting continued into the start of the second quarter. Evan Johnson came off the bench to score the last 6 points of the quarter to pull Moody to 32 – 28 after three quarters.
A Cyric Williams 3 point basket pulled Moody to within 3 points 34 – 31 two minutes into the fourth quarter. Evan Johnson, Cyric Williams and Jay Carroll scored the points in a Moody 7 – 2 run that eventually gave Moody their first lead since it was 2 – 0 to start the game. Moody took the lead 35 -34 and went on to win 41 – 34.
Cyric Williams led Moody scoring with 13 points and Evan Johnson, off the bench with 13 points and Evan Johnson poured in 7 points in the win.
