The Safe Routes to School Sidewalk Program is nearing completion.  The City of Leeds sidewalk improvement and construction program has reached another milestone as the route from Leeds High School to Highway 78/Parkway Drive has been finished and the portion from Highway 78 to Memorial Park along President Street has a significant portion completed.  Along with the good news that this new sidewalk project is joining the already completed middle school project, the contract for the concrete was won by our own Sherman (LeHigh) Cement Company.

The Three Earred Rabbit Café will add a second location in Leeds in the corner building across from Regions Bank on the Parkway where the old Top Notch Catering and Powers Café was located.  They are looking for pictures or nostalgia so if you have anything you would like to donate, please contact Christine Leonardi at their Trussville location.

ALAGASCO, now called SPIRE, is installing a new gas line infrastructure down Lane Drive.  Through a cooperative program with the City of Leeds, they have agreed to place the new line along the street rather than under the street to prevent having to cut the pavement in the event of a leak.

The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce will host their monthly chamber luncheon at 11:45 a.m. today, Feb. 15 at Leeds First United Methodist Church Family Life Center.  The Leeds Elementary Jump Rope Team will perform.  Dr. Stephen Russell, UAB Leeds Physician and Novelist, will be the guest speaker.  RSVP to Sandra McGuire, Executive Director, at 205-699-5001 or Sandra@LeedsAreaChamber.com.

President’s Day 2018 is Feb. 19 so the banks and government offices will be closed.

Moody Lions Club is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19 at White’s Chapel.

The Moody Area Chamber of Commerce Corporate Liaison Group will tour the St. Clair Animal Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Moody Kiwanis Club will meet at Noon on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Moody City Hall.

Chick-fil-A Leeds is partnering with Centerpoint Area Outstanding Teen Emmy Beason and Leeds Area Outstanding Teen Zoe Champion to bring you an Enchanted Evening to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.  On Saturday Feb. 24 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., real life Leeds area Princesses will be available to take pictures with your little princes and princesses.  A prize wheel will be set up and donations will be accepted for a chance to win great Chick-fil-A goodies and other door prizes.  A makeup artist will be on site to transform you from dull to dazzling and we will be adding other entertainment as the date nears.  10% of the proceeds from Saturday’s sales and all donations will go to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.  This event is FREE to the general public.  Please make plans to join Chick-fil-A Leeds for this fun and worthwhile event.

The Blessing Swap at Cedar Grove is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 17 from 9 a.m. until Noon.  Early drop-off dates are Thursday, Mar. 15 from Noon until 5 p.m. and Friday, Mar. 16 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. by the Fireside Room.  Volunteers are needed.  See their Facebook page for more information.

The 4th Annual City of Leeds Community Cleanup Day hosted by the City of Leeds is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 7 from 8 a.m. until Noon, rain or shine.  Volunteers are needed and this is a great opportunity for area businesses, civic organizations, non-profits and church groups as well as individuals to get involved to work together for a cleaner Leeds.  Organize your group now and plan to meet in downtown Leeds at 8373 1st Avenue in the empty field across from Windstream on Apr. 7.  The City will supply the bags and tools.  To volunteer, please call 205-699-0934 or email to inspections@leedsalabama.gov.
