TALLADEGA, Ala. – Talladega Superspeedway fans have made NASCAR’s biggest track a worldwide spectacle since 1969. This weekend’s tripleheader is no different. Fans are traveling near and far to watch the best drivers in the world battle at 200 mph on the high banks of the 2.66-mile venue during the GEICO 500 for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, the MoneyLion 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series event and the ARCA Menards Series’ General Tire 200.
Over 70 percent of fans that will be making the journey to motorsports’ “palace of speed” hail from outside of the state of Alabama, and all across the world including:
all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia; 22 countries including Austria, Brazil, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Denmark, Ireland, Mexico and Singapore; five continents (North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Asia)
Australia is the farthest country that will be represented - over 9,300 miles afar and more than 8,000 nautical miles away.
Not only do fans come to the most competitive track in NASCAR to witness three full days of racing, but it is also a time for them to meet old friends and make new ones. Race weekend sort of serves as a family reunion for most, calling ‘Dega their home away from home. And while the competition on the track is second to none, so is social atmosphere.
The weekend begins with a full day of on-track action today, including practice sessions for the MoneyLion 300 and the GEICO 500, along with the running of the General Tire 200 at 5 p.m. The “Big One on the Blvd.” driver parade and fan competitions in the legendary infield put an exclamation point on the day. Scheduled for a 7 p.m. start, the event is open to all Renewal Guest ticket holders, infield camping guests and fans who purchased an infield wristband.
Tomorrow, the MoneyLion 300 gets the green flag at noon, while qualifying for the GEICO 500 gets started that afternoon (3:40 p.m.). The traditional Saturday Night Infield Concert with headliner Granger Smith featuring Earl Dibbles Jr. kicks off just hours after the conclusion of the MoneyLion 300 at the intersection of Eastaboga and Talladega Blvds. Festivities are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and admission is FREE to all infield guests and anyone who purchases a ticket to the GEICO 500.
