Moody v Leeds basketball

The Moody Blue Devils and the Leeds Green Wave renewed the basketball rivalry in Leeds last Thursday night with Moody coming away with a big road win 62 – 52.

A technical foul and a three point shot by the Green Waves’ Daven Hopkins and Leeds was quickly up 5 – 0 to open the game.  Jay Carroll scored the first basket of the season with a 3 point basket making the score 5 – 3 Leeds.  Ceone Reaves later tied the game at 5 all midway through the first.  Moody took their first lead of the game thanks to a basket by Jay Carroll 7 – 5 with 2:47 left in the quarter.  Moody scored 6 points and Leeds scored five points to give Moody the 13 – 10 lead after the first quarter. 

Moody went on an 8 – 2 run to start the second quarter to stretch the Moody lead to 21 – 12.  Leeds followed with an 8 – 2 run to pull the game close again.  Zac Mason hit a basket at the halftime buzzer to give Moody at 26 – 22 halftime lead. 

The Green Wave started the third quarter hot going on a 10 – 4 run, and taking their first lead since they led 5 – 3 to start the game.  Leeds led 32 – 30.  Moody later retook the lead by one point 37 – 36 with 1:51 left. We had a great battle going in this rivalry game.  A steal by Carroll and the assist to Mason for a buzzer beating layup gave Moody the 43 – 38 lead after three quarters. 

Leeds kept it close in the fourth quarter, but 5 points is as close as they could get.  Moody hit the big shots and the free throws down the stretch to give Moody the 62 – 52 road win over rival Leeds.

Leeds was led in scoring by Daven Hopkins 23 points, and Micah Clarks 14 points.

Moody was led in scoring by Zac Mason’s 21 points and Cyric Williams 16 points.  Ceone Reaves also chipped in 9 points in the win.

Cyric Williams 11 points and Zac Masons 10 points led the Moody Blue Devils to a 57 – 30 win over County Rival Ashville last Friday Night.  Ashville kept it close early in the first, but Evan Johnson sparked a 13 – 0 run that pushed Moody’s lead up to 13 – 2. Moody slowly extended their lead throughout the game to run away with it.  Evan Johnson and Justin Dowdle each had 7 points in the win as well.
