Miracle on 34th Street

The Spotlight Program at CEPA is adding another show to their already full season of plays, and they want you to audition! If you’ve always wanted to act, or if you just want to have a lot of fun with a bunch of great people, here’s your chance.

Based on the 1946 motion picture and novel by Valentine Davies, Miracle on 34th Street is bound to be Spotlight’s biggest show yet. The story is a familiar one: by chance, Kris Kringle, an old man in a retirement home, gets a job working as Santa for Macy's. Kris showers good will on Macy's customers and the commercial world of New York City by referring parents to other stores to find exactly the toy their child has asked for. Seen as deluded and dangerous by Macy's vocational counselor, who plots to have Kris sent off to Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital, Kris ends up in a court competency hearing. Especially at stake is one little girl's belief in Santa. The play closes with a dramatic decision and, of course, a happy ending.

You may have seen local actor Jacob call in recent productions such as Harvey, The Curious Savage, and, of course, as The King himself in Four Weddings and an Elvis. This will be his directorial debut with Spotlight Program Coordinator Lesley Warren as his assistant. “I can’t wait to see what Jacob does with this play,” says Warren. “He is so intelligent and creative, I think I might learn a thing or two from him.”

Auditions for Miracle on 34th Street are open to novices and experienced actors of all ages and ethnicities. No reservations or headshots are required.
