Moody man indicted for murder, out on bond

Moody — Jeffrey Morris Hamby, 39, was indicted July 6 for the murder of Karen Nicole McNair, 41.

Hamby and McNair were living together in Moody when McNair died.

According to officials, Hamby shot McNair with a .357 caliber revolver.  An investigator with the Moody Police Department, Paul Hansen, testified that based on physical evidence, McNair suffered a gunshot wound to the back of her neck.

But Hansen testified that Hamby’s statements made to authorities were inconsistent with physical evidence.  Hamby told authorities he and McNair were facing one another when the gun went off.  Hamby also told investigators he thought the gun was not loaded, and that he and McNair wrestled over the gun at the time it went off.

Hansen testified that her body was discovered face down in blood.

Hamby is currently out of prison on a $500,000 bond and is expected to arraigned in August.
