Lake Alert: Logan Martin Lake expected to crest above summer pool

Pell City — Because of this week’s abnormally heavy rains, Alabama Power is operating

spillway gates at Henry, Logan Martin, Lay, Mitchell and Jordan dams on the

Coosa River to help manage flows and rising lake levels.  The company also

plans to open spillway gates at Martin Dam on the Tallapoosa River today.

Logan Martin Lake on the Coosa is expected to rise above its normal summer

pool level of 465 feet sometime late today and is expected to reach a peak

elevation just under 467 feet sometime Sunday or Monday.  Alabama Power is

working to maintain lake elevations at or below summer pool at its other storage

reservoirs. However, the use of its flood easements above summer pool to

manage high flows is always possible.

Alabama Power will continue to closely monitor conditions and manage

resources on the lakes carefully. Individuals with boats and other water-related

equipment and facilities should always be alert to changing conditions on

Alabama Power reservoirs and be prepared to take the necessary steps to

protect their property.
