Springville —
After winning the city’s first-ever youth association state championship, Springville’s seven-year-old all-star baseball players finished among the top five teams in the Dizzy Dean World Series last month.
“It was a good first trip,” said coach Jerry Windle. “We are really proud of these guys.”
The team tied for fifth place in a field of 49 teams, earning recognition for their athletic skills as well as their conduct, according to Windle. “A lot of good stuff happened on the field, but a lot of good stuff happened off the field too. We wrapped everything around glorifying God.”
Proverbs 3:5, 6, he added, served as a theme for the season: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
“Any message we laid out, we wanted it to be that. Our number one goal was to play in a way that would honor God and give him glory. It was so neat to see these little guys grab hold of that.”
