Springville —
Moms-to-be can breathe a little easier knowing that they can earn while they learn.
St. Clair Sav-A-Life’s Pregnancy Care Center offers classes that allow mothers the opportunity to hone their parenting skills while earning “Baby Bucks” that can be used for diapers, wipes, maternity clothes and many other baby and mother items.
The Christian outreach center in Springville has over 45 classes to choose from. Some are instructional, and some are videos. The classes allow moms and their partners to learn about:
* health and nutrition during pregnancy
* preparing for a delivery and baby
* postpartum and newborn care
* safety and first aid
* potty training and discipline
“You can come in as much as you want. If it’s once a week, a month or everyday, we’re here,” Angie Cantrell, director of Sav-A-Life, said. “The classes offer you a chance to learn how to be a parent. Many of the girls we see sometimes are first time moms. It helps them prepare to know what to expect.”
The classes and Baby Bucks program aren’t just for first time moms, anyone is welcome to take part. Spouses and partners are welcome to come along, too.
Moms earn baby bucks just for making an appointment and showing up. They earn $5 in Baby Bucks every time they take a class, bring their spouse or partner, take homework home, complete a Bible study and more.
“With the economy we’re living in, a lot of people are struggling to just buy diapers,” Cantrell said. She said that those who take part in the program don’t necessarily have to use the items they purchase with baby bucks from Sav-A-Life’s store; they can be given to someone else who might need them.
Sav-A-Life is located at 8203D U.S. Highway 11 in Springville, located in the shopping strip right beside Springville High School. Call (205) 467-7322 for more information about the Baby Bucks program or for other pregnancy services. Hours: Mon-Wed. 10-4; Thurs. 10-8.
