Blue Devils Top Panthers

Playing in front of the Pell City High School student body on Friday afternoon the Moody Blue Devils fought off the Pell City Panthers 51-44.

The Blue Devils led by three at the half and the Panthers came out pressing in the third quarter. Pell City’s Blake Fuller hit two free throws to clip Moody’s lead to 35-33 at the end of the third.

Early in the fourth, Pell City’s Andrew Cagle drilled a three pointer from the corner and gave the Panthers a 38-36 lead.

Moody took back the lead, 45-40, with 1:31 in the fourth. After a Moody timeout, Cagle hit another three and got fouled on the shot. Cagle converted the free throw, cutting the Blue Devils’ lead to 46-44 with a minute remaining in the game.

Moody’s Rod Wimes then hit a short bank shot making the score 48-44. In the closing seconds, Moody’s Chad Slade grabbed two big rebounds and was sent to the line where he connected on three-of-four free throws to clinch the win.

For Moody, Slade finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, T.J. Jones scored 12, and Wimes added 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four blocks.

Pell City’s Cagle had 16 points, Fuller scored ten and Ron Oden scored nine.

Moody lost a close one to Munford, 46-45, on a last second shot. Slade scored 19 points, Tyler Hamby scored 14 and Cory Payne contributed six points.
