Changes made in Saturday's Big Springs 5K and One-mile Fun Run

Springville — Get to the starting line Saturday as Springville holds its first Big Springs 5K and One-mile Fun Run. Money raised through the race will benefit the playground fund for new equipment recently installed at Big Springs Park.

Money is still being collected for another addition of equipment at the park, which city officials hope will be purchased and installed in the coming months.

“I have been amazed that this community has been so ready to support this cause,” said Natalie Hinds, one of the event organizers. “The churches and the businesses have been more then willing to do whatever it takes to make this event a success. All of the time and effort that has been put into this will benefit our community for years to come.”

Registration for the Big Springs 5K runs through 7 a.m. tomorrow. The 5K begins at 8 a.m. and the fun run starts at 9 a.m.

There were over 300 registered participants as of this afternoon.

Changes made due to the large amount of rain in the past two days include:

Parking will no longer be in Elam Field. There is plenty of parking along Industrial Drive around the Springville Water Works building and the post office. (Springville Water Works: 151 Industrial Drive) 35146

Packet Pickup/Pre-registration: On Saturday Pre-registration and packet pickup will be held at 7 a.m. in the Springville Water Works building. Family Fun Run registration will also be held here but that race will begin at Big Springs Park, so for more convenient parking for the Family Fun Run you may go into town and park around Springville Methodist Church after registration

Race Day Festivities:

Food and Drink vendors will be on the set up across the street from the park. All inflatables and rides will be set up in Big Spring Field behind City Hall.

“There are a lot of people who are going to be out there,” Hinds said. “It’s really turned into an all day event and that’s wonderful.”

The race will begin at the Springville Armory and loop around the post office and then onto Talladega Street, then on to Forman and Bruce Streets, circle McDonald Farm and head back to the finish line.

The fun run starts at Big Springs park and will end at Springville Middle School.
