At the chamber’s helm: Andrea Machen

Moody — As executive director of the Moody Area Chamber of Commerce, Andrea Machen is well aware of the city’s potential.

“Moody is the fastest-growing city in St. Clair County,” she said.  “There is a lot going on here now, and there’s a lot that’s about to happen here soon.”

Having been at the chamber’s helm for four years, she relishes her role as a publicity agent and cheerleader for Moody, and recently spent a morning discussing the aspects of her job she most enjoys and what occupies her time away from work.

About Moody:  “We’re a great city.  It’s a great place to raise a family, and it has so much to offer.  We’re right here at the Interstate, we have a wonderful mayor and council, and we have great neighborhoods and friendly communities.”

About Municipal Park:  The $1 million recreational facility is one of the Moody’s main attractions.  “We have a 1.1-mile walking track there, and our Miracle League baseball field is the only one in the state.  People gather there.  There is something going on there year-round.”

The best part of her job:  “Ribbon-cuttings.  To see new businesses open in our community is exciting for us.”

Away from work:  “I like to snow ski, water-ski, and be on the lake.”  She also plays in an adult softball league in Moody, pastors World Victory Church with her husband Shawn, and supports her two sons in their activities.  She’s looking forward to cheering on her younger son Nathanael as he begins his senior football season at Victory Christian this fall.  “Between church, the chamber, and the kids, I’m busy.”

How she describes herself:  “Very focused, determined, and goal-oriented.  I’m going to reach my goal, no matter what.”

Something an acquaintance might be surprised to know about her:  “I’m not necessarily a girly girl.  I can dress up, and I can get dirty.  I didn’t have a girl, so I had to learn to ride dirt bikes.”
